“Santo Spirito ” Parish Complex
Benevento, Italy
In collaboration with arch. Marco Castelletti (team leader)
The aim of the project is to create a ‘place’ for the community through the construction of three buildings, designed to form an internal sacred space and church square. This acts as a place of transition and contemplation along the devotional route of the 'Way of the Cross'.
The church square opens out to the south, establishing a direct connection between the sacred space and views of the city of Benevento. The single bell tower, positioned to the side of the church, marks the presence of the parish complex from a distance.
Further defining aspects include the use of soft, rounded forms that envelop and unify the buildings, alongside the meticulous organisation of the outdoor areas.
Eco-sustainable, renewable and recyclable materials are utilised to optimise construction efficiency, maintenance and ongoing building management. Furthermore, the building systems are designed to achieve energy self-sufficiency by employing innovative, low-consumption technologies, whilst fully complying with anti-seismic structural standards.
